The Mastervolt inverter is a high-quality electrical appliance
with a built-in electronic circuit that converts 12V or 24V
battery current into a stable 50Hz or 60Hz frequency. The
inverter has two connection points: one for attaching the
battery plus and minus cables and the other for the AC output
current. The smaller models, with capacities of 250 and 500
Watt, are fitted with an external battery connection point and a
plug for the AC appliance. Larger models are designed for fixed
installation and are fitted with internal connections. All
models can be fitted with standard or more advanced remote
panels.
As appliances become
ever cheaper, an inverter is a very good investment. You must
ensure, however, that you choose a long-lasting inverter with a
pure sine wave output. Mastervolt inverters have an extremely
long life-span and are fully safeguarded against short
circuiting, overloading and high operating temperatures.
Inverters do not ‘suck
the life out of your battery’, as some people seem to think. Of
course inverters used to be far from economical when they
contained heavy transformers and low efficiency transistors. Yet
Mastervolt’s specially developed high frequency technique
changes all that: virtually no energy is wasted and many
household appliances, such as 230 or 110V refrigerators and
lights (energy-efficient bulbs!), are even more economical than
their 12 or 24V equivalents. In other words: less Amperes from
your battery.
The Mass Sine range is
fitted with an energy-efficient circuit which maintains a high
output with partial loads and almost switches off in the standby
(or search) wait mode, thus using up virtually no energy from
the battery but still supplying AC power. There are four levels
of energy saving modes:
|
|
Inverter switched off: via remote
control panel or on/off switch on the inverter itself.
|
|
|
Inverter stand by/wait mode:
minimal consumption from battery yet still supplying AC for
small appliances. Switches automatically. |
|
|
Inverter on: supplying current
from battery as required for connected 230V appliances.
Energy consumption is 2W for small models and 6W for heavy
duty units. |
|
|
There is an extra ‘low energy’
mode for reducing basic consumption by 10%. This is
especially useful for small battery systems and for use with
a solar panel. |
This is an important advantage: low
consumption devices like electrical clocks, digital radio’s and
VCR's for example will continue to operate at this modeL.
Many AC appliances need an extra surge of energy for starting,
especially inductive appliances such as refrigerators, vacuum
cleaners, dishwashers, TVs and some tools. Mastervolt inverters
can easily cope with the required power surge.
Mastervolt’s rule of
thumb is that up to a consumption of around 3kW, the AC power
can be supplied by a Mass Sine (or Dakar) inverter. An inverter
installation is silent, does not produce fumes, supplies
high-quality current and uses energy sparingly. The inverter
only produces the power that is actually required, as opposed to
a generator which has to run continually. A Mastervolt inverter
is therefore a very efficient addition to a generator system.
The result: fuel economy, fewer engine hours and lots of silent
hours on board.
