Maximum Power
Point Tracking (MPPT), enables the Aurora inverter to
use a 16-point power curve to optimize energy
harvested from wind turbines. By means of proprietary MPPT
circuitry and software, Aurora can be programmed to increase the
energy extracted from the wind power curve (50-580 volts DC) in
virtually any wind power system on the market today. .
Aurora wind inverters incorporate robust,
high-efficiency designs that include features such as the capability
to optimize the inverter’s power curve to match the specific output
characteristics of the wind turbine being used.
Aurora wind interfaces
are available to condition the output of a micro-wind generator for
use with a wind inverter; eliminating the need for any additional
rectification. The Wind
Interface Box is designed to specifically operate with the Aurora Wind
Inverter. It has been matched to complete the power conversion package
with diversion load control and wind speed feedback. In addition,
there is an integrated RS485 communication link
with optional RS232 converter
(we do not supply these but can provide details of a
suitable supplier) and
free communication software
available to
program/modify the power
curve and monitor
the unit.
You will usually need a dump load for every wind interface used. Usually the
dump load power is sized based on 1.5 times the turbine capacity. ie
for a 5kW turbine a 7500W dump load is used. However, for turbines
with greater power than the inverter rating, then the dump load is
sized based on 1.5 times the capacity of the inverter which in this
case would be 9000W.
However,
it comes down to the characteristics of
the controller and the turbine. If you can guarantee that the
turbine/controller output voltage will not exceed 600V then you will
not need a dump load. If
the characteristics of the turbine are not well documented then it is
probably a good idea to include a dump load in the system.
If, for example, the
load (grid) is removed for some reason, under no load conditions the
turbine speed and therefore output voltage will increase considerably.
If the voltage exceeds 580VDC then there is a strong possibility that
the inverter will be damaged.
A wind interface is recommended for every inverter. However, you may
find that the turbine manufacturer use their own controller and this
may negate the need for the Magnetek interface unit and dump load
2 YEAR WARRANTY.

NOTE:
A new 10KW
3-phase inverter in a single case is due in Summer 2010. This will
remove the need for parallel 6000W inverters and there will be
no need for an isolation transformer. The design allows for
these 10KW units to be paralleled up to 50Kw on 3 phase.
