AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat)
batteries have a very low
self-discharge - from 1% to 3% per month is common.. Therefore they
can sit in storage for much longer periods without charging than most
standard batteries. They do not have any liquid to spill and
will not leak acid even if broken. They do
not give off dangerous fumes and can survive most freezes.
GEL batteries offer reliable cold
cranking (starting power) and maximum power supply with superior
cycling. The battery will work through the most extreme
conditions and are exceptionally clean and safe to handle. The battery
acid is fixed using a thixotropic gel, making the Gel battery
completely leak proof & allowing the battery to be inclined to an
angle of 180º. Gel batteries use gas recombination technology,
ensuring neither gas nor acid vapours are able to escape. This makes
Gel batteries completely maintenance free.
A slow self-discharge rate, plus its ability of recovery after deep
discharge, makes a Gel battery ideally suited for seasonal or
infrequent use
GEL TRACTION batteries
(eg. the MVSV 2V batteries) are designed
for regular and deep discharging and ideal for large systems that
require intensive use and long lifespan.
LITHIUM batteries
have a high energy density and are perfect
for cyclic applications. They offer savings of up to 70% in volume and
weight compared to traditional lead-acid batteries, with 3 times as
many charging cycles (2000 full cycles). The Mastervolt Li-On battery
is equipped with a battery management system (BMS) that automatically
compensates for any imbalance. They are more expensive than the other
battery options.
LEAD ACID batteries
can work well for many years if they are monitored and maintained
correctly.
Where the batteries are in an area where fumes or leakage are not
going to cause problems, a standard or industrial deep cycle battery
is a better economic choice.
